Cinder’s competitive spirit is the fuel to her fire – literally and figuratively. A Fire Dragon who loves to gamble, Cinder’s competitive nature stems partly from her friendship with fellow fire dragon Kighan. Best friends since they were practically still eggs, both Cinder and Kighan keep a friendly competition going between them, whether it’s in the throes of battle, or even while playing a high stakes game of chance. Despite her playful approach to all things in her life, Cinder still knows when to get the job done and to get it done right. Though she’s one of the youngest members of the Palace Guard, Cinder still manages to find a decent balance between work and play. That’s not to say she can’t – or won’t – find a way to mix the two any chance she gets. Recently, Cinder found herself volunteered for a duty not typically within the job description for a Palace Guard – averting the disasters that had befallen the Dragonlands when Mt. Aet’na erupted. Finding herself teamed up with her childhood friend Kighan, the two of them still managed to make the task of volleying the volcanic fireballs into a competitive game – based on their favourite outdoor sport.
Cinder isn’t just a good competitor. She, like her friend Kighan, is also quite good at hustling her opponents. | ||
Cinder was created to be a random team player to help stop fireballs and lava. End of story. But, as is quite common during the writing process, characters – even the ones meant to be on the fringe – often start to develop on their own, especially when they are used to further important moments in a story. Most of Cinder’s back story and characteristics started to develop all at once – during the scripting of the fireball scene. While this moment was being plotted out, Cinder’s character really started to take shape, as did her relationship with Kighan. The seeds planted during this sequence led to Cinder’s character getting fleshed out considerably more than intended. |
Lord Rozen's Comments:
Captain of the palace guard, she is Red's civilian counterpart. She taught herself pieces of the tiger's language, and uses it to communicate with her prisoner, Kilani. Over time, they have shown signs of affection in their own ways for each other. Cinder does so using language and willingness to learn about Kilani and her people.
