Continuing with the 2001 calendar's theme of "The Elements," we wanted to hit the big ones, like earth, wind, fire, and water. Well, we got those, but we still had some pages to fill. So we added lightning to the mix, giving us Elektra. But we still had one more page to fill.

So someone got the cockamamie idea of having a dragon to represent Love. Yes, Love. Well, I thought the idea was a little weak, but I should point out that the 2001 edition was put together under a very tight deadline, and hence, for lack of time, I went with it. So I drew Ai... The love dragon. Nee-haw. Well, it wasn't a complete disaster, but this marked the only time anyone would hear of this dragon.

Stuck for a background, I decided to look up the word "Love" in a variety of languages, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and, believe it or not, Swedish. Google's language features weren't all that great in 2000.

But it wasn't a total loss. Aside from her bubble-gum pink coloration, Ai's overall design would be modified and re-used as the basis for Light dragons, which represents the majority of our dragon population. So Ai did wind up serving a useful purpose, even if it was just to be a guinea pig.

Lord Rozen's Comments:

Her name is Japanese for love. As well as a possible minor deity in the dragon pantheon, representing romantic interactions.
